4kUP Ride
Story
Creating healthier outcomes for Indigenous kids
Six men. 4,000kms. $400,000. Adelaide to Darwin.
4kUp Ride, an epic cycle challenge from Adelaide to Darwin, leaving on the 28th August, to raise crucial funds to create healthier outcomes for Indigenous kids.
The riders will swap their laptops for bikes for 30 days as they pedal through some of the country’s most remote areas and toughest terrain, averaging over 130km per day. They will be self-supported and self-funded as they brace the tough conditions.
With a $400,000 fundraising goal, 60% of overall funds will support Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF) and 40% will support Starlight Children’s Foundation. The 4kUP ride will be fully funded by the cyclists.
Starlight Children's Foundation and The Indigenous Marathon Project
Starlight Children's Foundation
Since 1988, Starlight has brightened the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children, and their families. Living with illness or injury can cause enormous strain in the lives of children and their families. Starlight delivers innovative programs designed to make children happy and lift their spirits when they need it most. Starlight brings fun and laughter to children no matter what their illness or where they live. Each year there are over 600,000 child admissions made to hospitals across Australia. Today, Starlight can only reach ‘1 in 3’ of these children. Our ultimate goal is to enable each and every child to have access to Starlight programs.
The Indigenous Marathon Project
The Indigenous Marathon Project was established in 2009 by World Marathon Champion and 1983 Australian of the year Robert de Castella. The project impacts positively on Indigenous communities Australia wide and creates community role models and local champions who influences change and promote active and healthy lifestyles for others. The project is expanding its operations within communities around the country while it looks to provide opportunity where it would otherwise not exist and your assistance directly helps us to do so.
